Help an emergency telephone operator to know where you are
The Department of Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy has produced a discussion paper which seeks views from all communities throughout Australia on the future role and functions of the Integrated Public Number Database (IPND).
The IPND is a centralised database of all Australian telephone numbers, and associated names and billing addresses, that is maintained by Telstra. It was established to assist organisations, such as the emergency services, in locating callers.
It is important to keep your telephone and address details in the database accurate and
up-to-date so an ambulance or other emergency vehicle can reach you during a crisis. An ambulance, police car or fire truck directed to the wrong address can mean a loss of life. You can check your details by contacting your telephone provider.
You are invited to respond and make comments on the discussion paper. To find out more, and to obtain a copy of the paper, visit the Integrated Public Number Database page on the Department of Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy website.
Send in your feedback by Friday 16 December 2011.
