Working in an Australian Disability Enterprise

Australian Disability Enterprises employ people with all types of disability and support needs. Most people with disability, including those with high support needs, can work successfully in a job if they have the right support.
You can get a job with an Australian Disability Enterprise even if you have never worked before. The Australian Disability Enterprise will:
- check what you can do (your skills)
- see if they have a job where you can use your skills
- teach you how to do the job, and
- give you the help you need to do the job.
What help will I get at work?
You will get the help you need to do your job. An Australian Disability Enterprise provides a supported work environment. That means help is given, where necessary, so you can do your job successfully. For example, you may need some new tools to do your job, help from a supervisor or you may need to work at a time that suits you.
What sort of job will I have?
Each Australian Disability Enterprise sells different products and services. There are lots of different jobs. For example, your job may be:
- gardening
- making products
- sorting mail
- preparing food
- cleaning, or
- selling clothes and books.
How much will I get paid?
The Australian Disability Enterprise will pay you a wage. When you get a job, they will do a ‘wage assessment’ and tell you how much you will get paid for the work you do.
