You can now lodge some Medicare claims online
You can now claim simple general practitioner (GP) consultations online at a time and place that suits you. This new online service is a more convenient way of claiming back the fee for a visit to the doctor from Medicare.
Claiming online is a great alternative to lodging your claim at the doctors or visiting a Medicare office. This new online service is easy, convenient and available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
You can make simple claims for anyone listed on your Medicare card using Medicare’s secure Online Services.
Only claims for simple GP consultations can be made online. Simple claims are Medicare items 3, 23, 36, 53 or 5020. Check your doctor’s account for the Medicare item number.
To lodge a claim online you need to be registered for Medicare’s Online Services and have registered your current bank account details.
A Medicare benefit is paid into your bank account within 2–3 working days.
